Remember when snow days were gifts from the Winter Gods?
Remember when candy canes and hot cocoa were enough incentive to eat your veggies?
Remember when warm and bulky slippers were your most coveted clothing accessory?
Khaya cookies’ favorite “Remember December” memory goes to: Remember when making gingerbread houses was more fun than researching up-market property values…
In honor of that holiday memory – I thought a great way to celebrate in our home and yours would be making your very own “Gingerbread Khaya.” Simply open up a box and use the cookies to spruce up your “Gingerbread Khaya.” Unfortunately, my nieces and nephews ate all of the goodies before I could use them for my project. (No, really…) My little edible DIY, however, was still lots of fun and I hope it inspires you to “remember when” this holiday season, as well.
A few quickie ideas for “Gingerbread Khaya” building:
1. Frosting makes great adhesive
2. Use coconut shavings for snow
3. Use a piece of foil as your ice skating rink
4. Khaya short breads make for great windows and building blocks
Have fun, be creative – and don’t worry about the property value on your “Gingerbread Khaya.” The memories of making the edible homes with your family will never depreciate in value and remain priceless.
