Molo (=Hello in Xhosa):
So..I think you all know that Khaya means Home in Xhosa. I chose to name the Cookie Company Khaya because I started my 1st cookie company near the township of Khayelitsha (and this means "new home"). It has a dual meaning - When you eat Khaya Cookies you feel right at home. They are handcrafted and the ingredients are top notch. How many other CEO's have gone out to inspect the cows to ensure that these cows would produce good milk for the butter that goes into Khaya Cookies?
So..the point of my blog. You know we work round the clock to Create Opportunity One Bite at a Time for the workers who produce Khaya Cookies. I am originally from a small town located near Philadelphia. With the recent hard times there are some folks there who could use a "pick me up". So..Nick, who works at our Distribution Center had a great idea. Why not donate Khaya Cookies to the SHARE FOOD PROGRAM? SHARE is a unique program. Everyone in the community can participate in this program which provides low cost grocery packages and this helps to break down barriers that divide people – barriers like race, religion, social and economic classes, gender and age. When barriers are broken down we can begin to see each other as real people, and begin to build community and neighborhoods. Khaya Cookies donated over 1,000 (!!!) boxes to Share.
